Amaro (Gael García Bernal) is a young man who wants to change the world becomes a priest thanks to his capacity and the friendship with a bishop. He is sent to a small church in Los Reyes, Mexico to assist an old priest Padre Benito Díaz (Sancho Gracia). There he meets young devoted Amelia (Ana Claudia Talancón) and falls in love. Amelia sees in him the connection with God and falls in love too. They start a love affair. Padre Amaro finds out the many sins and corruption of the church in Los Reyes. Benito is involved with Amelia’s mother, receiving money from drug lords. Torn between the love and his faith Amaro has to choose his future.
