The film follows the destructive path of Jim Morrison (Val Kilmer), beginning with his days as a young film student with dreams of making music. It documents his romantic journey with first steady girlfriend, Pamela Courson (Meg Ryan), whom he wooed from her suburban, middle-class home out to a world of rock with himself and band mates. The two were deeply in love: he, intrigued with her innocence and hope and she, entranced with his melancholy sexiness. Unfortunately, as with many great and young, talented musicians, Morrison submitted to his fascination with drugs. His rise and fall takes us on a journey that is at times surreal. Ultimately landing in the arms of another, Morrison leaves wife Pamela and carries on his bad habits till his tragic death in Paris.
