The Greatest Show on Earth is a movie which is set at Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. The circus manager Brad Braden (Charlton Heston) has hired a big star named Sebastien (Cornel Wilde) to increase ticket sales in the towns they visit. Sebastien is an acrobat, and ends up competing for attention with Brad’s girlfriend Holly (Betty Hutton), a female acrobat who previously held the center ring. Although they start as rivals, Sebastien and Holly find themselves attracted to each other. While Holly is distracted by her dangerous competition with and attraction to Sebastien, the elephant trainer Angel (Gloria Grahame) is trying to make time with the manager Brad. The movie also contains a train wreck, and a mystery about Buttons the clown (Jimmy Stewart) and why he never takes off his makeup.
