This is a more thorough telling of Mary Shelley’s classic horror tale. Young Victor Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh) is a very happy man. His father, Baron Frankenstein (Ian Holm) has inspired him to practice medicine. He spends his days with his loving family and childhood sweetheart, Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter). When his mother dies during childbirth, Victor becomes obsessed with reviving the dead. While away at medical school, he loses his mentor, Professor Waldman (John Cleese) when a criminal (Robert De Niro) kills him in resistance to flu immunizations. The killer is executed, and Victor steals his body to make his horrific creature. After bringing the creature to life, he forsakes it, realizing that he has created an abomination. The creature is left to fend for itself. It learns about human kindness, but mainly about human cruelty. Realizing that he will be alone, he sets out on a vengeful and bloody quest to make Victor create him a mate.
