In the late 70s California, two hippies ('Cheech' Marin and Tommy Chong) are fatefully united and embark on a quest to find marijuana, and lots of it. Almost immediately, they are deported to Mexico, and in their attempt to get back home, they agree to drive a van through Border Customs back to the US. Encountering an assortment of characters on their return trip, ranging from crazy cops (Stacey Keach) to female hitchhikers, they finally make it back. Much to their delight, they discover that the van they drove was actually MADE of marijuana.
