Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) is a maverick bounty hunter who's assigned to track down and transport Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Charles Grodin), an accountant accused of stealing $15 million from a dummy corporation run by the mob's hitman, Jimmy Serrano (Dennis Farina). Walsh thinks that transporting Mardukas (who's afraid to fly) from New York to Los Angeles would be an easy job, but soon things get complicated. The bounty hunter wants his $100,000 reward, the accountant wants to escape and live, both the FBI and the Mafia's henchmen are hot on their trail, and a rival bounty hunter and Jack's greatest adversary wants to collect the reward himself. So, what is supposed to be a nice and easy midnight run in the bounty business quickly becomes a wild ride across the country, as Walsh and Mardukas try to lose their pursuers. They soon discover that they are both being played among the mob and the FBI, and the only way they can get through it is to join their forces. As result, Walsh and Mardukas, who initially seem to be opposites, gradually develop mutual respect and admiration. Midnight Run is one of those rare action comedies that are just perfect. The brilliant team play of Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin creating rich, memorable performances, and a well-balanced combination of suspense and humor leave you with the best impressions you can get from a movie.
