“Monsoon Wedding” centers on the Vermas family, working class Punjabis living in Delhi, India. The main story focuses on father of the bride Lalit (Naseerudding Shah), a modestly successful businessman who is planning to host an extravagant wedding in his home in just a few short days. He is frantically attempting to juggle all of the many preparations. Meanwhile, his beautiful daughter Aditi (Vasundhara Das) is carrying on an extramarital affair with her former boss, Vikram (Sameer Arya) with whom she is in love. Her groom is Hemant (Parvin Dabas), a man she has only recently just met. An unmarried cousin strongly argues against her entering into the arranged marriage, which Aditi has agreed to as a means of pleasing her parents.
