H.I. (Nicholas Cage) and Edwina (Holly Hunter) meet at a Police Station while H.I. is having his mugshot taken by the beautiful Edwina, a twice decorated police officer. After a rocky start, they fall in love and begin to set up a home together. Living in the wild back country of the desert, they marry and decide that they want to have a family. Edwina is infertile, and desperate for a child. H.I. hatches a plot to kidnap a baby of a well known local, who has recently fathered quints, and the couple soon finds themselves with a baby. Eventually the couple rethink their actions and what eventuates is a hilarious twist of events, involving ex-cons, a lone biker and a lot of fun.
