Prisoner Roy Earle (Humphrey Bogart) is known as Mad Dog, a dangerous felon and bank robber in “High Sierra.” His release is bought by the mob with the intention of having him rejoin his career with a big job. Along the way the commission of robbery is compounded with his attraction to young Velma (Joan Leslie) with undeveloped emotions and Marie (Ida Lupino) whose emotional makeup is overwrought by cynicism. Worse, he is saddled with thugs, as accessories who he knows will be his undoing. With a botched bank job, the crime of murder is added to the litany of crime. Taking refuge in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, he can almost convince himself he is a normal man with a girlfriend and a dog. But, it is the Mad Dog who is being hounded by press and police. There can be no rest, no matter how high he climbs.
